Places to practice

Watch this blog on Youtube!

When you start out in voice over or if you’re just thinking of giving it a go, it can be really daunting to know how or where to start. Maybe you bought a few bits to get start on recording, but you’re worried about putting out your first audio. Well here’s a few good places to start - without the pressure of needing top quality audio!

This one is a great place to practice an audition process without any pressure. You can listen to other people’s auditions for the same roles too so it’s great to get a feel of what other people are doing. Some auditions are literally recorded on their phone so there’s no pressure around how good your sound has to be (although I’m sure it would be an advantage). There’s paid and non pain roles, fan dubs, original animations and loads more to have a look at.

This is another great place for some practice auditions. It’s a forum based site and again has a mixture of different projects, some paid and some unpaid. As this one has a lot of forums, it’s also great to have a chat with other content creators and VOs.

Lastly - Don’t forget social media. Lots of people put casting calls out - especially on Twitter! So try searching hashtags like #castingcall and see what you can find.

Most of these projects will be fan dubs or passion projects so don’t expect too much from the paid roles, but they’re a LOT of fun to dip your toe and see whether VO is for you - or just to have a look at what that side of the industry can be like.

HAVE FUN"!
